History
Kyle and Brent Hanada are brothers and owners of Tengu Charters LLC.
The Tengu Derby inspired our business name, which is held in the wintertime, mainly fishing for Blackmouth Salmon. Tengu Derby was formed in 1937 with about 250 members, consisting mainly of Japanese Americans. After World War II ended, the derby resumed in 1946. Kyle and Brent’s grandpa, Hatsuji Hanada, and his brothers were part of running Tengu Derby. There is a plaque dedicated to the Tengu Derby on the pier next to Marination Station. The derby still runs to this day. Kyle and Brent grew up fishing with their dad, Ron Hanada. He and his brothers, were dedicated to salmon fishing and took Kyle and Brent out fishing while still in diapers. Ron owned a Boston Whaler Montauk 1989 and a Boston Whaler Outrage 1994. The stories and bonding experiences that they have developed are aspects they want to help create for everyone interested in fishing.
